Rising Beyond: The Journey of Pallav Mehrotra

In a quiet corner of Lucknow, a boy with a heart full of dreams and the resilience of a warrior began a journey that would one day inspire countless others. Pallav Mehrotra, born with Down Syndrome, has never let his challenges define him—instead, he has chosen to define his life with courage, determination, and hope.

In 2010, Pallav's world shifted dramatically when he lost both his parents in a tragic incident. With nowhere to go, he found a home in a hostel where Swati Ma’am served as the principal. More than just a caretaker, Swati Ma’am became his mentor, his guardian, and the guiding light who saw not a boy with limitations, but a young man with immense potential.

Pallav’s passion for sports was evident early on. He participated in district and national-level cricket tournaments with fierce dedication. Under Swati Ma’am’s nurturing guidance and through the opportunities she helped create, 2015 became a milestone year—Pallav was selected to represent India in the Asia Pacific Games in Australia. He didn't just participate—he triumphed, bringing home a gold medal.

The momentum continued. In 2016, he traveled to Bangladesh for the South Asia Unified Cricket Tournament, winning a silver medal. Never one to rest on past achievements, Pallav challenged himself further by exploring softball—a sport that demanded more from him physically and mentally. With relentless effort, he earned selection to the Special Olympics in Los Angeles, where he once again stood tall with a gold medal around his neck.

But Pallav's story is not just about medals. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic forced him to vacate the hostel. With no family nearby and nowhere to go, he faced uncertainty once again. Yet, he was not alone. Swati Ma’am—now the founder of Rainbow Society for Differently Abled—along with Pallav's sister, ensured he had a roof over his head. With their help, he moved into his own flat and began living independently, an extraordinary feat for someone once thought incapable of self-sufficiency.

Soon, Pallav joined as a data feeder at Ram Swaroop University in Lucknow. But his true calling remained in the world of sports and empowerment. He later returned to Rainbow Society—not as a student, but as an Assistant Sports Teacher, guiding others with the same care he once received.

In 2024, yet another door opened. Pallav was selected to work at Mitti Café, a pioneering initiative run entirely by individuals with disabilities. There, Pallav not only serves with pride but continues to shatter stereotypes and inspire every customer who walks in.

Today, at 36, Pallav Mehrotra stands as a beacon of strength, humility, and purpose. With the unwavering support of Swati Ma’am, his sister, and the Rainbow Society, he has transformed every setback into a stepping stone.

His journey reminds us that with the right support, belief, and opportunity, no mountain is too high, no dream too distant.
